Blood trails

Text: Erling Jensen

They walked in the night
both with salty wounds
something was'nt right
they heard howls and frightening sounds

They followed the crimson thread
hearts gripped with silent dread
Shadows danced, the wind did wail
the forest whispered its chilling tale

A wolf's cry split the frosty air
a warning growl from who knows where
Eyes like embers pierced the gloom
a predator lurked, sealing their doom

The blood trails led to a frozen stream
a place untouched, like a fleeting dream
But there it lay, a lifeless form
the victim of the winter storm

The moon above, a cruel overseer
mocked their plight with icy sneer
In the snow, the truth took shape
from their past, they could not escape

The night devoured their final pleas
swallowed whole by ancient trees
No one returned to tell the tale
lost forever in the forest's veil

There were blood trails in the snow
blood trails after two

There were blood trails in the snow
and the moon laughed
